The Cotton Club offers a small, funky space for cocktails and music. This club has no need for table reservations, and offers a not-too-loud, laid back environment to enjoy a drink, which range from 20 yuan and up.
Keep an eye out for live music evenings, because they are often the most fun. Arriving around 11:00 PM on a Saturday, we found the place packed with a mostly Chinese crowd bouncing up and jamming out to an awesome rock band from Chongqing. In addition to their own songs, the band sang jazzed up covers from Creedence Clearwater Revival, the classic “Happy Birthday” and a surprisingly awesome version of Brittany Spears, “Baby One More Time”. Really. It was the coolest version I have ever heard that unfortunate pop song.
The amped-up, engaging bartenders were definitely the life of the party, half of them spent the evening on the bar-top dancing to the music with their electric broomsticks and liquor bottle microphones. By midnight one of them began blowing fire and spraying liquid out over the rocking crowd. When the band got off the stage, the bar provided a free round of shots for the entire club. The rest of the evening was spent bobbing to eclectic music and enjoying the energy infused atmosphere the band had left behind.
COTTON CLUB CLOSED - 08.01.2010 (spicy280)
Tried to go to the Cotton Club last night and found it boarded up. I don't know when/if it will reopen, but it's definitely shut down for now.
