Monica Liau (more chengdu) The Chinese nightclub scene is often different from their Western counterparts, but if you’re looking for a glitzy night on the town surrounded by young, high rolling Chinese clubbers try the recently opened SOS on Central Kehua Road. When walking through the CenturyMart department store late at night, you can feel the thumping vibrations of SOS even before you see the staff adorned in professional black uniforms, lining the way to the flashing neon entrance. SOS has branches across China, the most famous being in Hangzhou. It bases its reputation on its ability to attract high profile DJs like Sasha and Armin VanBuren. The one in Chengdu is a little smaller, but has just as much neon and stays open late into the night. It usually plays decent electronic music, but the throbbing speakers sometimes serve up hip-hop and special live performances. SOS offers a variety of glow-in-the-dark drinks that cost the typical, high-end Chinese club price. If you want to buy a bottle of Champagne, they will bring it to you with sparklers. There is no entrance fee, but there is a sitting fee if you want a table.
