Q's is a small cafe featuring Yunnan coffee, fresh baking, and desserts. The main branch in Tongzilin is elegantly decorated in white and red with wood floors and plants that keep it from feeling stuffy. It's a comfortable and refreshing place to drop in and pick up some sweets or croissants in the morning, or to spend a muggy Chengdu afternoon. There is a large variety of drinks served, but I find their tea is a bit more satisfying than their coffee, which is about the level of your supermarket vacuum pack. At the Tongzilin branch, both coffee and tea come served in gorgeous glassware and there is free wireless Internet. You can get dessert sets that feature a coffee and dessert of your choice, or order a la carte.
The main reason to come to Q's is the baking, which is of a higher quality than the average. They have croissants, bread, several types of cakes, and cookies. The breads are very popular, but I enjoy the cookies most. They are shortbread in style and are perfect with a beverage. The little pudding cups in different flavors are not bad, but have been gelled to within an inch of their lives. The cream puffs are an acceptable alternative to the Beard Papa kind that we used to be able to get in Chengdu.
The Isetan on Chunxi Road also has a small branch of Q's. There is a short dessert and coffee counter and a couple of tables set up beside the cake station. This is all on the basement level of Isetan, rather than the food level on the seventh floor, and the ambiance is pure supermarket. You get your coffee in a paper cup, however, the servers' warmth and service attitude far exceed that of the more laid back service at the Tongzilin branch. Most single servings of desserts and small boxes of cookies are between 10 and 20 RMB; coffee and tea start at 20 RMB and o up from there.
