The Old Chengdu Club is a private oasis amid the bustle of Wenshu Fang. Located on Wuyue Gong Street, just down from the temple entrance, the club resides in sixteen re-created mansions arranged in traditional Chinese courtyard style. Each building maintains its own character while belonging to the group. The facilities include a boutique hotel, a spa, a health club, art galleries, four restaurants, and a meeting and events centre. The club hosts several members' events and cultural activities that appeal to all kinds of tastes, from car shows and martial arts shows to cooking and flower arranging classes. The most central building, right opposite the entrance, houses the Wuyue Palace Lounge. When MORE visited recently, we found the lounge an appealing place to relax with tea or some stronger beverages. Snacks and desserts are also available.

Stepping inside the club's hotel took us back a century. The period building's design shows craftsmanship and attention to detail. The interior of the elevator is custom designed with a jade ceiling. The cosy and tastefully arranged guest rooms are well-appointed and furnished with traditional pieces like elaborately carved beds and luo han seats, works of art in themselves. There are also modern amenities such as flat-screen TVs and a jetted tub in the bathroom. Hotel guests also enjoy members' privileges at the various club facilities and can avail themselves of the many services provided.

The Chinese restaurant, Ju Zhen Garden, is decorated in traditional Chinese style and provides private rooms seating six to forty diners. The menu offers both traditional and innovative Sichuan and Cantonese cuisine and the décor offers a worthy setting for fine dining. Advanced booking is highly recommended.
