The much anticipated opening of the Blue Frog has finally taken place, and we here at MORE could not be more pleased. The menu has lots of casual shareable starters like chicken wings and a few flavours of spring rolls, baskets of fries, and a snack platter. We ordered a plate of Nachos as soon as we walked in the door, and shortly afterwards a plate of fresh crispy chips topped judiciously with beef chili, cheese, salsa and shredded lettuce landed on our table. It was sided with a very generous cup of guacamole, but we missed the sour cream promised on the menu. Our server offered to sub extra salsa, but when we demurred, the manager took the dish off of our bill.
We ordered the Cobb Salad, which was egg free and had spicy jack cheese instead of bleu, and were impressed with the freshness of the vegetables and the care with which they were assembled. Its side of mustard dressing was pretty sharp but dressed the salad well. The menu has a whole page of craft burgers, including one called The Chengdu with spicy sausage, but we were in plate sharing mode so asked for Beef Sliders, which had a good beef flavour and were cooked to pink in the centre. They were topped with melted cheese and onion and sided with pickled jalapenos and tomatoes. We liked them even better spread with a little bit of the mustardy dressing from the salad. The Sweet Potato Fries with their side of spicy mayo hit the spot.
The dessert menu is short and sweet, so we decided to share a Brownie, which was served warm and filled with lots of walnuts and topped with chocolate sauce and ice cream. They do a Happy Hour from 4-8 pm with a free refill of wine or drinks, and if we were downtown then we would much rather spend the time on a comfortable stool with a snack and a drink than smothered in rush hour traffic. The second floor is the non-smoking area, while the first floor has more of a bar atmosphere and guests are welcome to light up. Cocktails around 40-60RMB; snacks and drinks about 100RMB per person; dinner around 100 to 200RMB per person.
