MORE dropped in to sample the fares at Rumba, a stylish spot which showcases dishes from Latin American regions. The menu is a mini culinary geography lesson with little flags beside several of the dishes to indicate the country of origin. The dishes that dominate are from Mexico, Peru, Cuba and Jamaica, but there is enough variety to appeal to anyone. The Grilled Chicken, which can be ordered peri-peri or Jamaican jerk style, is a specialty and comes with a choice of hot or mild sauces. The Cubano Sandwich, which comes sided with fries, is a very popular choice. The Nachos came in a mound of crunchy corn chips piled with seasoned meat, lots of sliced jalapenos and cheese sided with housemade salsa and covered with sour cream. They do sizzling plate Fajitas, including vegetarian style, which customers can fold up with soft flour tortillas. The Chicken Quesadilla was generously filled and had a nice kick to the seasoning. We were also impressed that they found yuca to make fresh Yuca Fries.
The drinks menu has a good selection of beer and wine, and there is also a Latin theme to the cocktails menu with a Margarita, a Mojito, a Cuba Libra and a Coronarita, a beer cocktail that is a play on the traditional Corona with a lime wedge. They also do tropical fruit cocktails where customers can mix and match fresh fruit with any of the classic cocktails. We give the Passionfruit Mojito high marks. Their housemade Tamarind Juice and Sorrel Juice are refreshing choices as well.
Rumba offers an intriguing variety of dishes and finger foods and is a good spot for lunch, dinner or drinks and small plates later in the evening. The atmosphere made us feel like the weekend with a Latin music soundtrack. Regulars turn up for the salsa nights on Friday and Saturday nights, and there is live music from 8:30pm on Wednesday to Saturday nights; Spanish corners are also held. Cost per head is a bit north of 100 yuan per person.
Live music from Wednesdays to Sundays.
